Raj’s Memorial Cheddar Bike Ride 5th August 2012

Immediately after Raj died, his close friends wanted to show their love and respect for him by ‘doing something’, and the suggestion of a bike ride  from Bristol to Cheddar and then up the Gorge was put forward by them. With Raj Snr leading the team, family and friends, and parents of Raj’s friends, all joined in and somehow 35 people set off from Raj’s house on all sorts of bikes (repaired and patched up by Rob Gardner our friend and bike doctor), and cycled to Cheddar in pretty awful weather conditions. At the bottom of the Gorge more friends met the group and about 50 people made the gruelling climb to the top (some helped by a tow on or in a support car!). It was an amazing effort by everyone and most people were way past their comfort zone. As someone said on Facebook - “only Raj could have got so many of his unfit, alcohol loving friends up a ridiculously steep hill on bikes” !! Inspirational.  The ride was featured in ‘The Bristol Post’

Isle of Wight Cycling Festival October 2012

Computer games developer, Scott Church of Shanklin, and Cowes gym instructor Mike De Mouilpied, both aged 24, completed the ‘Cycle the Wight 70 mile challenge in memory of Raj, Scott’s 18 year old cousin who was killed in August when he came off his road bike whilst on a routine cycle ride in Bristol, and to raise money for the Heart Foundation.

Scott cycled in a T-Shirt specially printed in memory of Raj, and given to all his family and close friends - “A Precious Human Life”  by H.H The XIV Dalai Lama (see the full version in About Raj)

Bristol Road Club - The Raj Soni Memorial Hill Climb 14th October 2012

BRC, Raj’s cycling club, put on the Raj Soni Memorial Hill Climb - the famous Cheddar Gorge climb - and  many road cyclists took part. Cheddar Gorge was Raj’s Alpe D’’Huez and he was a formidable opponent for anyone who cycled up there alongside him and tried to beat him to the top. BRC  are hoping to make the Raj Soni Hill Climb an annual event,

Bristol Cycling Development Squad - The Raj Soni Hill Climb Challenge September 2012

Raj’s other club, BCDS, put on the Raj Soni Hill Climb Challenge, a one day stage type event, taking in some well known challenging climbs in the local area. BCDS are hoping to make this an annual event.

We ran the Bath Half Marathon 3rd March 2013 for Raj Kumar Soni

*** £3,147 raised ***

Amazing...a completely brilliant well done to Raj Senior, Krishna, Claire, Jess, Alex, Scott, Tony, Ronnie and all the other teachers from  Raj’s school - Bristol Cathedral School - who ran for the Raj K Soni Legacy Fund. It was sooooo cold - even running 13 miles only just managed to warm people up. It was a fantastic turn out - 15 people running - inspired by Raj. Thank you all so much...he would have been so proud of you all.

And huge thanks to everyone who came to cheer them on and everyone who has donated money and sponsored these lovely people. Every pound you have given goes to the Legacy Fund and on to support local young people. We are so grateful for your support. Pictures in the Gallery and on Facebook
