Raj’s Memorial Cheddar Bike Ride 5th August 2012
Immediately after Raj died, his close friends wanted to show their love and respect
for him by ‘doing something’, and the suggestion of a bike ride from Bristol to
Cheddar and then up the Gorge was put forward by them. With Raj Snr leading the team,
family and friends, and parents of Raj’s friends, all joined in and somehow 35 people
set off from Raj’s house on all sorts of bikes (repaired and patched up by Rob Gardner
our friend and bike doctor), and cycled to Cheddar in pretty awful weather conditions.
At the bottom of the Gorge more friends met the group and about 50 people made the
gruelling climb to the top (some helped by a tow on or in a support car!). It was
an amazing effort by everyone and most people were way past their comfort zone. As

Isle of Wight Cycling Festival October 2012
Computer games developer, Scott Church of Shanklin, and Cowes gym instructor Mike De Mouilpied, both aged 24, completed the ‘Cycle the Wight 70 mile challenge in memory of Raj, Scott’s 18 year old cousin who was killed in August when he came off his road bike whilst on a routine cycle ride in Bristol, and to raise money for the Heart Foundation.

BRC, Raj’s cycling club, put on the Raj Soni Memorial Hill Climb -
Bristol Cycling Development Squad -
Raj’s other club, BCDS, put on the Raj Soni Hill Climb Challenge, a one day stage type event, taking in some well known challenging climbs in the local area. BCDS are hoping to make this an annual event.
